Ian's service is Tuesday. I can't go. I have a big event at work (retirement party), which I organize, at 5 p.m. (and I have to be there in the afternoon to make sure everything is getting done). Maggie, can't you skip work? Wouldnt they let you go if it was a family member who died? This is clearly very important to you. You should go, or you will always regret it.

Nope, I didn't go. I wish I'd been able to, but it didn't work out. I heard it was a nice service. It wasn't that work wouldn't LET me go, it's that I had responsibilities here that no one else could or would have taken over for me. It's been a hell of a week.
