A) ACTION; town.

[when she woke up to a frigidly cold house, the first thing Trisha did was get a fire going in the fireplace after checking on Alphonse and the drone children. she'd dug up all the extra blankets and linens in the house to cover them in while they slept, and then she'd listened quietly to the commotion on the phones. so, something ( Read more... )

[Alphonse hadn't even noticed the cold yet, he was too deeply asleep. He was sort of in love with sleeping again since he had become able to do it, and would happily snooze the morning away.

He only wakes up at the smell of cooking from... the fireplace in the lounge?! Rubbing his eyes as he meandered downstairs.]

Um... why is it so cold?

[kneeling down in front of the fireplace and stirring the soup with the ladel, she tilts her head at hearing Al's footsteps from the stairs, before giving him a sunny smile.]

There you are, sleepyhead! I was wondering when you were going to wake up.

[she sets the ladle down and finds her feet, picking up his coat she had draped over the back of a chair and holding it out for him.]

Come and put this on, Al. You don't want to catch a cold...

[He still feels a little knotting in his stomach every time he sees her, like a mixture of guilt and elation that was impossible to describe.]

Huh? Oh...

[He slips the coat on as directed, looking a bit confused.]

What happened to the heat?

The electricity has been out all day... [she is tucking it nice and close around him, making sure it's buttoned up. shh, you're still her little boy.]

The people on the phone think that something is happening again. There was a report on the news...

A report about what?

[He's looking more and more worried. If the power was out and something bad was happening, he didn't even have his alchemy to make sure his mother kept warm and DIDN'T GET SICK EVER.]

[she shakes her head.] I missed it. But I know that it isn't a good thing, Al.

Please be careful, okay?

I will.

[He steps a bit closer, before almost sheepishly pulling a blanket around her shoulders.]

And I promise, I'll look after you too.

[Al ;; her smile is soft, and she brushes some hair out of his eyes.]

How about you promise to help me look after Ed, instead? I have a feeling he is going to need it much more than us...

[He puffs his chest out, looking like THE MAN.]

I'll look after both of you.

Then everything will be fine, Al. You and Ed are still my little heroes, after all.

[He can't believe after everything, after she knew what they had done, they were still her little heroes. It's all he can do to keep from hugging her again right then.]

Then... you have to let us protect you, okay?

[she wouldn't mind that hug, Al.]

Of course! As long as you two let me look out for you too, then I'm happy.

Did everywhere lose power?

[Or can he ship her off to somewhere warm and safe?]

The whole town...

When I went out earlier, the only thing that had power left was the tree in the middle of the park. [Mayfield's priorities?]

Are you hungry...? It isn't much, but I managed to get things together for some soup. It looks like we'll be having one pot meals for a while.
