the hotel fitness center tv was tuned to fox news this morning (high off the ground, nothing i could drag over and stand on to try to change the channel or just turn the damn thing off, and - of course - no remote). the stupid, it burns.

fortunately, tigerstripes provided the perfect antidote:

TV-B-Gone. Of course, for the even geekier, you could have a look at the range-extending hack or even the (less covert, but more overkill) Ultra hack. Or use the source and go with the open-source kit version.

For more control, there are options like the Ninja Remote. Technology can't solve all our problems, but it can make the world a quieter place sometimes :)

(BTW, I ran into the 'political campaign' post earlier, and was also vastly amused.)

i actually do have a tv-b-gone - it was mildly amusing until the battery died (which seemed unreasonably quickly), at which point it became just another piece of office clutter. i may have to resurrect it just to try that range-extending hack, though...

*yes yes, me=dense, my only defense it that it was probably 4am and I'd only had 4 hours of sleep in the last 24, as that's generally when I end up checking LJ it seems
