seems like half the people i know are on facebook and have sent me invites to view content that requires a membership. um, no thanks. linked-in and LJ are about all i can keep up with anyway...

yeah, i suspect all it would do is renew my faith in the 95% rule and/or drive me batshit crazy.

yup. it just seems like an incredibly bad idea. fortunately, nobody in my immediate family is "hip" enough to be on facebook, and my friends are all accustomed to my surprisingly-luddite nature. (says the inveterate CLI weenie - i still use pine to read my personal email.)
