open the eyes of my heart

Tonight I saw "Blood Diamond" with Natasha and Jenny and never have I ever actually wanted to leave a movie until tonight. In the beginning, I could feel myself just knowing that I'd be looking forward to it ending and going to eat. After an hour, I checked my cell phone ( Read more... )

there are children soulders because the governments of Africa made it so. Its not really anything anyone can truly do to prevent it.. unless the whole structure of every nation of Africa is changed and the continent itself is risen from the ruin has become.

That maybe should cynical.. but comming from a country where this happened for 15 years.. its hard to a) evoke change and b)act upon that first spark.

and you are right. all anyone can do is promote awareness.. to start.. cuz you gotta start somewhere.

hope for Africa? omahamercury December 30 2006, 19:21:17 UTC
This is indeed a very moving film that presents a very realistic picture of the lives of refugees who are totally dependent on international relief aid. It also shows what can happen to a nation when hope is lost. This is a very difficult film to watch but it is an important and I would even say necessary film in that it causes us to reflect on the choices that we make both on the personal level and that our elected officials make on our behalf. hi!
that was very eloquent, love! its so confusing-- why did we get to just... live here, to be born into our lives the way they are, what did we do to deserve this versus those children turned into soldiers in africa? we just got lucky.
it's not our fault that we got lucky, but we can realize what we have (not materially even, but as you said, the ability to live without worrying about life), and that is a step, i think. then maybe we can think of ways to help-- it is a very big problem. but we could even help one person, and that would be a good thing. i don't know. i'm thinking aloud, in a comment on your livejournal.
i love you :-)
