Mac Evangelism & Opinionated Geekery

When Windows users talk about Windows, they tend to bitch and moan about it.
When Linux users talk about Linux, they actually tend to bitch and moan about MS.
When Mac users talk about OS X, they tend to talk about how wonderful it is.

When I talk about Linux, it tends to be about how awesome it is.

Or at least how awesome KDE is...or perhaps more honestly Kate and KWrite.

Seriously, best text editors I've ever used ^^

My next PC is dual booting :)

Heh, I wasn't really expecting anyone to reply who I hadn't already discussed Linux to death.

I use Kate in the VM, it seems OK. I find it fairly difficult to get excited about text editors after having used Eclipse for so long. I genuinely don't like using something that doesn't have a damn good understanding of the code I'm writing itself.

Also, I quite like KDE, I like the idea of a system entirely open source, I like the idea of being able to run some Windows apps and really I like how good XGL looks. My next PC will probably have a Linux installation.

That said, there are plenty of things I don't like about Linux/KDE and the KDE apps. But I've just lost interest in spelling them all out again.

Some time on IM maybe...

AIGLX is the way to go. Not XGL. ;)

I agree with daigotsu. KDE is incredibly awesome and in my view perhaps the best poster-child for what Free Software can produce, being rather more cohesive and directed than others I can think of (X11, Linux itself, etc).

Hang on... Your next PC is dual booting?

You mean your still using Windows?

I prefer not going near it if I can avoid it... But this should go on IM.

I'm using LJ Jabber by the way, as well as MSN and various others.

Hmmmm, I mostly just wanted to write down those three lines as a sort of quote to remember. Now that post has had more comments than anything I've written for a while.

I would love to know exactly how many problems a Linux user encounters on average. I suspect its higher than Windows, but more easily fixed by an expert since its less black box.

I'm also writing a huge predicition post. After reading some predictions from journalists and industry professionals and realising how stupid I thought it was, I decided to try it myself.

Well, I am a pretty heavy Linux user (as well as OpenSolaris, but we won't mention that here ( ... )

"When Mac users talk about OS X, they tend to talk about how wonderful it is."

Except of course when it's your mac computer, which seemed to willfully break down whenever it felt like it!

Ha! I'm only joking really Ben, who knows I may end up getting a mac when I finally decide to upgrade my computer. The main problem being of course that there just aren't enough computer games for macs! So I may have to stick with windows.
