Mail is back
In the end, I fixed it myself by connecting directly to the server in question and I wish I'd thought to try that sooner instead of believing the generic "still working to repair the failed platform" story on the ISP website... -
Communications
My ISP has had some infrastructure problems recently and as a result I'm not able to get to my mail at the moment. This should be resolved early next week, I imagine.

Oil consumption
A recent letter I got from the Centre for Alternative Technology said that "we now consume two barrels of oil for every barrel we discover".
I need to find a proper reference for this, but it is a good headline statistic. -
Making a difference
I encountered David Mery on Wednesday, lurking suspiciously outside Southwark tube station. He was about to be interviewed by the BBC for a programme to be shown tomorrow at noon. See this on his website for details.

Practical Perforce
I've received a copy of this book by Laura Wingerd and I've been glancing through it from time to time as I've been working today. It looks like a very good book to have available in a company like the one I work for that uses Perforce a lot.
