It wasn’t so much that House particularly wanted to pay a visit to Cuddy’s office, especially after the last encounter he’d had in there. He had to, however, because he needed to request -- or, in his case, as was always the case with him -- demand for his patient, Michelle, to be put on the kidney transplant list. Both her kidneys had taken a rapid turn for the worst overnight and if things continued the way they were going she was going to either end up on intensive dialysis for the rest of her life, or possibly -- and the chances were looking more than possible at the moment -- die. He needed her on that list just in case ( ... )

Cuddy stared at House for a moment, disappointment written clearly on her face. Then she shook her head to rid herself of the complete cognitive dissonance of having had thoughts of Mystery Man and House at the same moment.

She hadn't really expected the next man to enter her office to be her secret admirer, but House's appearance had put an emphatic paid to that notion. Sure, House would know about the Department Head meeting...or not. She sent him an email reminder every month but he was impressively fast with the delete button and given that he never showed up for a meeting.... Well, either way House was definitely not an admirer of hers, secret or otherwise.

Cuddy busied herself by searching the stack of folders on her desk for the ones she'd need for the upcoming meeting. With her expression more controlled, she glanced up at House. "Is there a specific reason you need a couple of kidneys? Or is this your new hobby?"

House, of course, was completely oblivious to any secret admirer of Cuddy's. Why she stared at him like that, he had no idea, but he returned the look she gave him with a quirky look of his own.

Seeing her return to her usual composure, however, and the question she asked him distracting him from the weird look she'd just given him, House replied, "Nephrology has always been a hobby of mine. It beats urology, that's for sure. Why study pee when you can study the source of the pee, instead?"

Glancing behind him to shut the door, he caught that same damn assistant peering in and House gave him a condescending look before he pushed the door shut. He looked back towards Cuddy again, settling both hands on the handle of his cane.

"My patient. I want her on the transplant list."

Cuddy hesitated a moment wondering what House's strange look was supposed to mean, or what she'd done to prompt the strange look. Feeling slightly paranoid, she quickly reached over to close the email window on her computer screen.

"Not to mention nephrology allows you to avoid those uncomfortable topics like STDs and impotence," Cuddy said as she continued to dig through the folders. Damn assistant was supposed to have them in order for her. She was about to drag his butt in when she finally located the budget report she needed.

Setting the report aside for later, Cuddy sat back in her chair and gave House her full attention. "What does your patient have? Is there any chance her renal failure is reversible?"
