In honor of David Carradine (rip), during the weekend I re-watched - again - the whole "Kill Bill" saga and...OMG my love for those movies - especially the first - knows no bounds
( Read more... )
That's right. I heard about him the other day but forgot to check how it was. It felt kind of weird, I don't know, maybe it's just that I ended his book about Kill Bill's shooting on December or January. (Are you, by the way, interested in the book? I don't want it anymore - I didn't since I finished it -, I was thinking about ebaying it but I don't know if I'll finally do.)
Are you a science-fiction reader? Or have you read anything by Jeannette Winterson? I happened to read The passion and loved it but now I don't know if going for The stone Gods (science-fiction) or if there's any other treasure by her. =)

I know, his death was very mysterious! I didn't know he wrote a book about Kill Bill's shooting...I'll see if I can find it at the library, it's not the kind of book I'd spend money on, but I'm curious about it...

I definitely am! But I haven't read anything by Jeannette Winterson, I just checked out The Passion on Amazon and it seems a pretty awesome book! I'll definitely check it out...and maybe I'll try her sci-fi book, too. :-)
You've got to read The passion, I bought it because of a quote from it I had seen (it's not easy - or even possible? - to find it on a library around here) and I never regreted it; in fact it was the best thing I've ever bought without knowing all about it.
I'd like to read your thoughts about anything scifi related. I'm beginning to read more myself (right now I'm reading Ubik) and I would love to read more opinions.

Eh, maybe one of these days I'll post some sci-fi recs! :-)
I haven't kept up with Tarantino, but Pulp Fiction is in my alltime top ten (and I think I just haven't wanted the memory of it sullied by lesser efforts) but if you recommend Kill Bill, I'll bite.
Like an earlier commenter, I loved LKH through Blue Moon, and then like you, I've slogged on out of habit, but I bought the last two in hardback and haven't even read them. They're in my TBR pile and I just keep thinking I'll get to them someday. I'm a Jean Claude shipper, and she went in directions that leave him a footnote, and it frosts my kazoo.

I absolutely adore Pulp Fiction...but I think Kill Bill is even better somehow. They're both utter genius, but Kill Bill is more surrealistic, if you know what I mean, and it's visually stunning.
I strongly recommend it (the first movie more than the second, but they're both great) and I'd love to hear what you think about it... ;-)

There are so many great books around that I definitely understand leaving LKH behind! :-) Still, the last book is a definite improvement compared with the previous ones, so hopefully if/when you'll finally read it you'll be pleasantly surprised.

from your lips to my husband's ear, he loves these movies. I am a little less enthusiastic, but like them A LOT nonetheless and was very sorry to hear of Carradine's death.
Eeee...I know the blood and gore (even tho he does them in a very comic-book surrealistic way) aren't for everyone, nevertheless, I do think Tarantino is a genius. ♥
I've just read Skin Trade and I have to agree with you. It's much better, partly because there's hardly any sex in it. I miss Jean Claude, too. I don't like Richard so I'm glad he's not in the book.
[ one of your icons... ]supes_June 21 2009, 03:43:44 UTC
*sigh* i still keep meaning to watch kill bill. if only i could get over the squick factor of all that blood...
anyway, um. hi. you don't know me, obviously, but i'm a fan of your icons. and i just saw one being used without credit (which always bothers me, being an icon maker myself). i'm sure it's an honest mistake, so i don't mean to get the person in trouble or anything... i just thought i'd let you know, in case you wanted to say something to them. *cough*

Eh, I'm usually very squicky too...but KIll Bill is so over-the-top-kitsch-splatter-comic-book-style that it doesn't feel real, most of the time it's actually quite funny. ;-)

Aww...thank you for letting me know! I'm obviously happy when people credit me for my icons, but I won't go crazy if they're not credited. The only thing I can't stand is when people either modify the icons (without asking permission) or claim them as theirs. :|

well, to be honest, i've never really sat down and tried to watch it all the way through. though i really should. i mean, it's one of those movies you should at least be able to say you've seen, whether or not you end up liking it.
but so far, i've only seen bits when it was playing on tv and stuff. so maybe if i actually sat down and watched it, i'd have the same reaction. (or, worst case scenario, i could always just look away during the really bloody bits. :P)
i have to admit, i do know what you mean, though. don't know if you're familiar with adult swim at all, but there's a show on there -- metalocalypse* -- that i've been really into lately. which kinda features a lot of death-and-injury based slapstick.** it's not exactly my favorite part of the show -- but sometimes it really is more funny than squicky.

I just googled it and it looks pretty good! I can only stand violence/gore/blood when it's over-the-top and unrealistic (ergo, kinda funny), I can't stand realistic stuff...:|
has someone actually done that to you on purpose, though? i mean, you'd have have to be some major kind of butthole to all-out claim someone else's work as your own.
Yep, it happened to me more than once...to be honest I felt more pity/contempt for the people who did it than actual rage...what's the point of posting and getting praise for something you didn't do? *ponders*
