Lesser Deities and Demigods

In modern neo-pagan religions well known goods such as Thor, Zeus, Bridget, and Cernunnos get a lot of attention but these famous deities are only a small portion of the deities and spirits ancient pagans venerated.

Do you work with any lesser known deities or spirits? If so who? Tell us about them ( Read more... )

I have a relationship with Sjofn, who is only attested to through a line in Snorri wherein she is listed as one of the Asynjur, and it says that she "inclines the heart to love." I have all sorts of other UPG about her, mainly what I described here: http://heartofmoon.livejournal.com/118153.html

I worship Lilith, who I guess is known amongst Pagans, but not much from anywhere else since she isn't Greek, Egyptian, Norse, etc. She also gets a bad rap from people who think She's "evil," so sometimes it's really just the misunderstanding of Her rather than not ever hearing of Her.

And Hermes and Bast are well-known soooo... I will mention them just because Hermes likes being mentioned. xD

WHOO! *highfives back* hehe Hermes is such an attention whore (imo) but I love him anyway. xD

And I saw you worship Hermaphroditos. He's always struck me as being pretty awesome, I've just never looked into Him. It seems to make soooooo much sense He's Hermes' son though. lol

I haven't met to many people who work with Blodeuwedd or know much about Her, even if they've heard Her name before.

A VERY obscure God that has come to me lately has much in common with Baphomet and Lucifer, althoug He does not call Himself by any name (He refuses to do so, in fact). The Coven that first encountered Him (into which I will be Initiated in a week and a half) was given the task of naming Him, so I know Him as Atamenoch. I look forward to learning more about Him after my Initiation.

I work with Blodeuwedd. She is a wonderful deity I have worked with for years. I have been blessed to receive a few gifts from her.

I work with a Mesoamerican deity called Cama Zotz. I've only encountered His name in books before, so I didn't knew He was a real God for a while. He is the bat god of darkness and death.

Yup, that was a planet name, and also the God of the evil bats in the Silverwing book series.

Hermaphroditos has only one story, in Ovid's metamorphosis, and it tells of his origin along with the origin of the fount of Salmakis. He was raped by a water nymph when he was fifteen, and cursed the spring she came from in anger. He's one of the Erotes, or love-gods (Eros is an Erote), and attendant to Aphrodite, as well as her son by Hermes. It is said he's the god of hermaphrodites, eunuchs and effeminates, but I also believe he is the god of rape survivors/victims and transpeople (which includes not only transsexuals but all people who do not fit into 'cismale' or 'cisfemale'). As such, he is one of my especial patron gods ( ... )
