breaking news on the gay front

This week Illinois State Senator Heather Steans filed the Equal Marriage Act (Senate Bill 2468), which would allow same-sex couples in IL the right to marry. I don't know if it will get anywhere - similar bills died in the House - but I remain hopeful. Even the possibility of the bill passing makes me excited

I was thinking about your post where you mentioned not being able to get married and how shitty it is. There are a lot of gay couples in weddingplans who say that it doesn't matter to them that it's not "legal", they want to have the ceremony in front of friends and family regardless. I get upset every time because it just shouldn't be this way. :/

I so badly want to be married, but I'm holding out until it's legal. (My original plan was waiting on federal legislation, but I will settle for state.) I don't want to feel like I have a "fake" marriage. And really at the end of the day, getting hitched isn't to affirm my love for Nik or to show it off in front of family & friends. I know what I've got already! It's a civil rights issue & I won't be happy until my rights are no longer stomped on.

I'm partial to the west coast - Vancouver specifically. But from the minimal research I've done online, it doesn't look like it's as easy to move up yonder these days.
