This week Illinois State Senator Heather Steans filed the Equal Marriage Act (
Senate Bill 2468), which would allow same-sex couples in IL the right to marry. I don't know if it will get anywhere - similar bills died in the House - but I remain hopeful. Even the possibility of the bill passing makes me excited

I so badly want to be married, but I'm holding out until it's legal. (My original plan was waiting on federal legislation, but I will settle for state.) I don't want to feel like I have a "fake" marriage. And really at the end of the day, getting hitched isn't to affirm my love for Nik or to show it off in front of family & friends. I know what I've got already! It's a civil rights issue & I won't be happy until my rights are no longer stomped on.
