Have any of the network-inclined had any experience making a WebSphere (db2?) server talk to a SQL server?

The thought gives me sinking feelings, and it makes the IT guys squirm when I ask them, yet I have a group saying they can do it. Are they full of it? Am I worrying about it too much?

Five days until I am on vacation. Eight days until our road trip.
