Turns out someone quit on that Forest Service trail crew I was trying to get on so now I've got a job!  I'll be living near Eureka MT and making good money hiking and working. The work should last until around October when I'll head back to Eugene for the winter.  The work involves being on fire reserve for the district which gives me the necisarry
