Okay so a double episode both 1x07 - The Escape and 1x08 - The Rescue are under the cut with picspam so

The Escape really sets up the ‘main’ couples of the show. It was plain to see from the moment that Marissa ask Ryan for a smoke that she and Ryan are the new Romeo and Juliet of Newport, and after the way Seth babbled about Summer on the boat, they were so happening and this is when they really pick up. But what I like is neither happens over night. Both take time to build up, the Ryan/Marissa relationship is quicker to develop but then it helps that she knew his name within five minutes of him showing up.
IT all happens because Seth wants to take Ryan, or be taken by, to Mexico the last week before school
Ryan’s isn’t sure at first but he caves to Seth’s will. Seth also plays it so that it’s not just the two of them but also two others, care to guess who?
Ryan and Marissa are less then pleased since she’s still not over Ryan almost sleeping with Calab’s girlfriend and he’s not over not being with her they even fight about it later but in the rover it’s Seth and Summer that fight and I have to say I like it when they fight it’s funny but anyways their fight lands the car in a ditch and the four of them in a motel for the night
I just want to point at least two of them are rich and this is the best they can do? Sam and Dean do better. But anyways they pair off and fight and don’t end up sleeping grouped by gender
The next day before they leave both couple have a moment, Ryan and Marissa wake up in each other’s arms, or really Marissa’s in Ryan’s arms
And at their breakfast Seth and Summer both think it was cute and it was but anyways at this breakfast
We get to learn something about Summer, we see the first of her Rage Blackouts
And yet Seth still wants her go figure.
Anyways once they right their goal it all about the party only someone’s already partying
Now in all fairness Holly has been stocking him
But at the time he knew it was wrong
And yet he did it anyways
So Luke may want to be a good man and some day he may be but right now it’s still sixteen and still have growing up to do. But one thing that bugs me is Holly seems to say that Luke’s been sleeping with everyone but just a few eposides ago she was happy that Luke and Marissa were broken up so she could take a run at Luke…if he was cheating anyways then did it matter?
Anyways Marissa, Ryan, Seth and Summer all saw it
And Marissa didn’t take it very well given that the night before her father told her about his and Julie’s divorce
So she didn’t need more bad news. But it does show something about who she is. Marissa doesn’t seem to do confrontation very well. Every time something happens she Escape, from the Ball, seeing Ryan, when things get hard she leaves this time she goes a bit to far, stealing some pain pills that Summer got for her Step mother and slamming back shots
she doesn’t end up very well and it scared them all
Ryan as always is her, and Newports, white knight as Seth holds Summer.
We get to fine out right away in the next show that she’s okay
In body at least. Marissa said it was an accident and she wasn’t trying to kill herself and that may be the truth but it scared everyone so her mother wants to put her in a recovery center at San Diego.
Now her mother, Julie Cooper, has a second reason for this, She wants Marissa away from Ryan.
Julie Cooper is a character you love to hate, she’s the bad guy since you can’t have Darth Vader in Newport. And she’s been against Ryan since the moment she leaved he was in Newport. Julie is one of those women that always know what’s going on and always willing to talk about it, in the world of Gossiping house wives she was queen. Then the show happened and Jimmy broke the law and she because the gossip but she still wants to control it. She’s from Riverside a town much like Ryan’s Chino and she’s made her life in Newport and she don’t want anything to threaten it and I think that’s why she goes after Marissa and Ryan so much. She can’t do anything about Jimmy and his problems but she can damn well make sure her daughters won’t lose everything. She sees Ryan and wrong guy for Marissa and Luke as the right guy and she pushes Marissa to that end.
This plus Ryan’s White Knight hang up puts them at odds, at lot. In some ways Julie is more Ryan’s rival then anyone else both fighting over Marissa just in different ways.
She doesn’t like anything that has to do with Ryan even the flowers he got for Marissa
Get throw away by Julie because they come from Ryan and not Luke
But this doesn’t stop Ryan, He will always help like when Marissa is going to be send to the ‘Recovery Center’ Ryan abandons his test to get into the local private school to go help
And with the help of Seth and Summer
And with the unexpected addition of Luke (who had come to say he was sorry with flower
They help Marissa get away and later it’s Ryan to stand up to Julie for Marissa
Ryan and Julie have more in common with each other then with anyone else and yet they end up on different sides of almost everything. I like it really.
And really Seth is taking AP calculus sophomore year? My school rare had a junior taking it and it wasn’t AP
