I'm not the misanthrope I was this time last week, but I'm not in the most pleasant place.  After all of the work I poured into my Faulkner paper, I got it back today with comments that began with how disappointed the professor was with it.  Apparently, my entire Modernism class missed the mark with the abstracts we turned in next week, and while ( Read more... )

Wow -- that sounds really disappointing and disheartening, especially after putting in so much work. :<( Do you know what they were looking for? I am curious if there are specific ways of analyzing that the were seeking? Did they want specific schools of criticism? As in picking a particular perspective and analyzing it from that view? Or did they want more textual analysis? Or cultural / historic scholarship? (A professor of mine talked about the difference between "critical" and "scholarly" approaches to analysis last week.) Did you find the comments made helpful? As in do you understand what they were looking for, if not what you wrote? Is there anything I might do to help support or encourage you in this ( ... )
