As soon as I get my act together and put a blog together I'll be writing more, though not in LJland. The ads and the slow trickle of people ceasing to write has really damaged my enjoyment of this site. With a blog it will be a fresh start and totally my own, and that sounds really good.

Yeah a few people I know use tumblr and seem to like it...the problem is that the format for those blog sites is not so conducive to reading the way livejournal is. Hopefully you'll attach your blog to your lj so we can still read it from here!!

The above thread gave waaay more information than you need in terms of gear. The above advice is good when it comes to gear if you're carrying food and whatnot. Make sure that you leave room in your pack for food...aka pack a slot where food would go. Always pack an extra blanket and bring food when you're hiking just in case things don't go as planned. Bring an emergency kit with bandages and such ( seems like a no brainer but just thought I'd include it because I definitely needed one and didn't have one. Putting stuff into ziplock bags is all well and good, but when I was in costa rica, we had to make sure that everything was taken out at night and aired out. I wouldn't say that you need to go that far, but make sure your clothes aren't molding....plastic bags lock moisture in as well as out, so if it's a really hot day, make sure your clothes are dry before Zipping them away ( ... )
