There was a part of me, no lie, which felt this Sword Of Damocles hanging over Obama's first term.  I was pleased with the leadership, but felt it came about mostly because it followed GW Bush's disastrous presidency, that we were so hungry for a change that voters would take just about anything.  But we're a capricious lot, and as this has been a ( Read more... )

Here's hoping that the rhetoric on BOTH sides about ending the squabbling and bipartisanship in The House will actually come to pass. Great things can be done when people learn to work together instead of against each other.

It was indeed quite a gratifying outcome, and probably about the best set of results possible without reforming the electoral system to improve the representation of smaller parties. I noticed Seattle's already announced how the police will be implementing Washington's new pot permissiveness, fully accepting it, and indeed, noting that such enforcement had already been a bottom priority, per city resolution. (They did, unfortunately, note that any pot confiscated will not now be returned =:)

And then there's California's high-speed rail, finally getting underway earlier in the year - a hugely expensive project, but one that's been long in coming. Ought to be quite a fun trip, even if the Central Valley doesn't have exactly a lot to see. =:)

It'll be interesting to see, as you note, where the Republicans head from here. With that much money and power swirling around, fortunes could change quite quickly for some. Will Romney be as quickly erased from recent party memory as Bush was? Will anything come of Huntsman?

Here we are, a little more than nine years later. Obama did indeed serve his second term fully, despite the GOP using every dirty trick they could to disrupt his presidency. Sadly for all of us, the GOP's candidate for 2016 was NOT the ideal that we would have hoped for. No, what the USA got was the Anti-Obama, one Mr. Donald J. Trump, who has spent the last four years doing his best to undo everything that Obama did, and he didn't stop there. He's rolled back regulations and laws that have kept the USA relatively clean and peaceful. He promised to "drain the swamp" and instead has filled it with the most deplorable sycophants he could find - fellow billionaires who care nothing for anything except holding onto their wealth and power by any means possible. It has divided the country, and the rest of the world has been watching in abject horror as this demented goon tweets away unchecked. Nero fiddled, Trump tweets ( ... )
