I got up at 8:45 am, before my 9 am alarm. We packed up and left just before the 11 am deadline--there were no instructions on what to do, of course. On our drive I saw some sort of bear or woodchuck rush ino the woods and we almost got run over by a combine going to the fields.
We got gas and found someplace to mail our postcards before going to the airport. We dropped off our rental cars and though there were only two people working security we still had an hour and a half to spare. So we had lunch at the Chili's that was directly on the other side of security.
There wasn't much time to wait after we went to the bathrooms. I was last to board with B-16, so I had to ask a lady sitting next to the parents if she'd mind moving. The flight attendant chatted with a man in front who had a big poodle service dog (who lay peaceably at his feet). He'd served in the Navy (maybe the dog was for PTSD?) and the flight attendant showed him pictures of all the other dogs he'd flown. I'm pretty sure the mother with two babies from
our flight up was also on this plane.
Papa went to get the car while I got the bags and Key and Mommy went to the bathroom. I gave directions home and we made good time. Both next-door neighbors were out, including the ones who'd just gotten back from their months north. The hurricane debris was still piled up.
I tried to watch the Macy's parade Thanksgiving but I couldn't get NBC on my televisions (I think my SmartTVs are defaulting to their internal antennas for some reason, which are too weak to pick up anything. Something I need to investigate further when I have time.) Then I went over the parents and helped cook ham.
Then we all went over to Jane's for the Thanksgiving meal. I ended up being the sole K at a table of J's. Over at their table the parents had a good time chatting with Becca and her boyfriend David, which meant Becca was the sole break at a table of Jane and Davids.
After I helped them pack, Papa and Mommy and I left for the beach Friday. By the time we went out to get food, it was dark and pouring rain from the cold front coming through. We were able to watch Mulan with the condo's DVD (!) player.
I didn't sleep as late as I thought I would. When Key arrived we took the parents out to lunch at Norton's Restaurant & Treehouse Bar. It was nicely decorated for Christmas. My shrimp and scallops pasta was delicious. I drove home during a gorgeous dusk.
It's actually still cold, a wintery change of pace I've greatly been enjoying. I've been chastening myself for not having a fire, but I was unprepared to do so so early. Oh well, I'm sure I'll have opportunity again.
I'd hoped to finish the October trip journal before Thanksgiving, but it's been busy again. It's been the sort of week where I feel like I'm not getting enough done even though I am finishing tasks because there's still more to be done.
I had a dentist appointment Tuesday that was suddenly canceled, but Papa went that afternoon (from the beach) to get a crown fixed, so Mommy stayed with me and helped with the Christmas decorating. All that's left is the tree.
I was finally able to do lot of shopping Wednesday after work (where I left plenty for next week). Then after my suddenly rescheduled dental appointment Thursday I ended up swinging by Publix because they had a few new sales. And there's been various monetary and medical issues to look into.
I think I've had about enough of book cliffhangers. I respect a good cliffhanger, but you have to make sure you still tell a complete story within your work before you hang, not cut off in the middle. And books are far worse because it might be a good year or more before the story continues and I'm not rereading just to remember what happened.
