Survivor is where I started and it had me hooked. And as for suggestions on what not to read...well, Haunted I would see is easy to pass up. I love his work, but I couldn't get through Haunted. I started reading it over a year ago and still can't get myself past the half point.
I am with you on this, though I am behind and have not read Rant. But I didn't read Rant because I was so put off by Diary. So, yes. Lullaby, first. Then Rant. Maybe read Diary later since if this advice is taken, reading Lullaby will make you want to read everything he's written. Right.
His first four books, Fight Club, Invisible Monsters, Survivor and Choke are by far his best books. Once he started churning out a book a year, the quality noticeably declined. I wish he would take his time instead of pumping them out like clockwork.
Diary is my all time favorite, but Lullaby would also be good to start with. save Rant for last. also if you end up reading all of chuck's books, save Stranger Than Fiction (his nonfiction short stories) for the very last and i actually read that one backwards (starting with the last section first). when i started at the beginning, it was kinda of boring and was taking me forever to get through.
