Back on LJ again

Well, I'm back again, after a forced hiatus after the breakdown of my computer. It took about a month and 15-20 hours on the phone for Dell to diagnose that it was a hardware problem (which I had intimated from the begining). Glad your computer is working again. I'm really surprised about Dell--after much looking and checking with lots of people (and particularly about reliability!), that's what I got and so far, so good. I wonder if it's the particular people in your local office that are the problem...

One of the problems is that there is no local office. When my computer first started having problems, I was like, okay, I'll just take it to a dell shop and let them diagnose the problem. You can't do this. You have to troubleshoot by phone. They will only come to your place if it's a hardware problem, and a part needs to be replaced. This was when I started to get so frustrated. After spending 2 and a half hours on a sunday with no tangible results (except that my computer was no longer functional), I was looking forward to spending countless further hours on the phone with no solution in sight. Plus, I had to purchase a software care package (240 a year), because they indicated this was necessary, because it was probably a driver problem.

If you haven't had problems with your computer, any company will seem fine. If it's something simple to diagnose, also fine. But there's countless stories on the internet similar to mine.
