False Rumps?

Help needed with false rumps!

I am trying to opt for a soft, round - well almost balloon like - look for an 18th Century dress. Polonaise would most describe what I'm looking after.
Something like this, only a bit more subtle, I would like to avoid that sharp "teatray" on the back to a more softer curve .

You can make a pad in a sort of petal-shape, a bit like a very small version of the tie-on seat cushions for wooden chairs.

I made up this pattern:

The bum pad that came with it isn't a roll shape, its more of a crescent shape with sections so that it curves better around your body.

Not sure if this is quite the shape your after but you may be able to adapt it.

You probably want something like a bustle pad or small bustle to create this shape. The crescent bum roll will make too much of a shelf, but something like these might give you the softer curve you want.

Something like what this page pictures, no endorsement of the page since I've never used them, but they do have good pictures of the types of options available.

You beat me to it. Bustle pad would be my suggestion. Or perhaps a small crescent to give you some side volume, combined with a petticoat that has ruffles in the back to soften the shelf.
