A typical automobile lasts about a decade. I think we have something like seven decades left to use up oil at the present rate.
That means we should have seven automobile replacement cycles before we run out of oil, and as oil becomes more expensive, we can convert to alternative technology.
Also, there's plenty of capacity for growing corn, etc, which can be converted to forms that can be burned in cars. There may be some minor changes required, but these changes to the cars can be gradually phased in as the cars get replaced anyway.

In fact, I sincerely hope that I'm wrong about everything and all my planning and worrying is for naught.
However, I have little faith in the system and its ability to accept and promote change so I will just go on being a smidge paranoid for now.
