Chasing Cars A peach colored rose floated in the water amongst the wreckage. It’s petals were badly burned, but it spun with the light current and something about it was majestic. Bits of buildings and ash fell from the sky like a cloudy rain that blocked out the sun. He stretched out to grasp the floating miracle but it was just inches out of his reach. His arms folded in on themselves and he sat alone until the rose was out of sight. Then, two hours past that just in case there happened to be more bright little spots in the gray waters.
Long after his toes had gone numb from the cold he closed his eyes.
There were just no more miracles to be had, it seemed.

It had been a regular day when the sky erupted like a volcano. Stars fell from the sky and pieces of burning space crashed into homes and buildings until very few were left. Jiyong sat huddled with his love until the screams died out and the silence was deafening. He pushed the makeshift shelter away and pulled the boy up with him.
“Come on, Ri, time to go.”
They made their way slowly through the debris and he silently thanked whatever god was left that most of the bodies had been scavenged already. Occasionally they would cross an abandoned car or a child’s toy and he would steer them the opposite way. Seungri was silent and it just made him hold him tighter.
Without the stars, the sky was black and endless. It would have been beautiful except it wasn’t. Nothing more than a constant reminder of the end of everything.
The suns light had gone out two days after the explosion taking with it the difference between night and day. They wandered down empty street after empty street until he wondered if they were going around in circles.
On the third day, they found a lantern that was largely undamaged. It was unnerving to have light surrounding them after so many days in darkness. He worried that their light would signal a presence and draw any fellow survivors like a beacon. The thought of damaged people kept him awake and watchful. Occasionally, his eyes would droop and the desire to just lay down and give up would push at him ravenously. But, one look at Seungri, so helpless, and he felt wide awake.
Jiyong huddled his love to him like a precious cargo and decided he would do anything to try and keep them safe.
They had only met one other person in their wandering. His eyes had been wild and Jiyong knew a moment too late that he was too warped from the end to not be a danger. As the survivors hands slid up Seungri’s body, he did not think for a moment. The man’s blood stained his shirt, but Seungri did not push him away and he held him closer than he ever thought possible.
They walked down desolate roads with their failing light and scavenged what they could. Jiyong found blankets and sweaters to ebb off the never ending cold, but Seungri never seemed to warm. He tried to carve them out a space to stay but it only served as an easier target for fellow survivors. He had long learned that who ever had been left behind had not escaped with out severe scars on their psyche. Watching as the world burnt did something dangerous to the mind.
He lay next to Seungri and held him close. The only thing he held dear in the entire world only inches from him was the only respite for his mind. He smoothed messy hair from his eyes, relieved when he didn’t wake. It was all he could do to hold onto what he had left.
They reached the end of the continent on the third week. With out the moon’s pull, the tides had crashed miles inland and destroyed everything in it’s path. They stood on the top of a cliff and peered down at cities underwater with a grim sense of wonderment. His hand linked through his love’s and for a moment he could almost pretend none of it had ever happened. The steady flow of water was so soothing he laid down and slept soundly beside Seungri for the first time in weeks.
He awoke to a different world. The darkness remained, but everything was so much colder. He glanced to the side and tried to see him as he once was. The boy laid as still as he had since the sky fell. He pulled him up and held him close. His coldness swept aside his aching.
“See, Seungri? I promised we’d make it to the sea.” His voice was so loud in the air, constantly filled by nothing. Seungri’s eyes remained closed, as they had been for weeks. “I promised, and I did it. See?”
He soothed the dark hair away from pale cheeks and smiled.
“See?”

Long after the peach rose faded from view, he laid back down by his love. He ached for his smile. He ached for his voice and his dark eyes. He clutched his chest and ached.
He turned to his side and laid his head against his love’s chest. He wrapped his arm carefully to get as close as he could.
“I’m not afraid to sleep now.”
He wasn’t sure if he even spoke it out loud, but he imagined Seungri smiling back at him. His hands would grasp at any available extremity and they would lock into each other soundly. Seungri would laugh and everything would seem better. He closed his eyes and his love’s voice reached his ears.
“I want to see the ocean.”
“I know baby. We’ll get there.”
The cold seeped in from the ground but he couldn’t feel it. Seungri grasped his arms and wouldn’t let go. He couldn’t imagine ever wanting him to let go.
“When this is all over, lets just lay there on the beach and stare at the stars. I bet the stars are amazing so far away from the city lights.”
“Whatever you want, Ri.”
Water tickled over his toes and he grinned. Seungri loved the water.
“I love you, you know that?”
“…Yea. I do.”
The sun was shining and he could feel it warming his cheeks. What a perfect day to go to the beach.
“Even if the world ends, we’ll still have each other, right Jiyong?”
“Even if it was the last day on earth, I’d come back to you.”
The world stopped spinning and he swore he felt it shudder.
Everything was still, but Seungri kissed his eyes and nothing else mattered.
“Look up. The stars are all exploding. Its so beautiful.”
“So beautiful…”

Here are the lyrics, in case you want to see what this was based off of:
Look down ? the ground below is crumbling
Look up ? the stars are all exploding
It's the last day on earth
In my dreams
It's the end of the world
And you've come back to me
In my dreams
Between the dust and the debris
There's a light surrounding you and me
It's the last day on earth
In my dreams
It's the end of the world
And you've come back to me
In my dreams
And you hold me closer than I can ever remember being held.
I'm not afraid to sleep now, if we can stay like this until
It's the last day on earth
In my dreams
It's the end of the world
And you've come back to me
In my head I replay our conversations
Over and over til they feel like hallucinations
You know me ? I love to lose my mind
And every time anybody speaks your name I still feel the same
I ache, I ache, I ache inside.
