Hey, 15000 words is something, regardless of whether it's finished or not.
I satrted writing something a couple days before Nano started. About one page. It wasn't even really part of the story. It was a dream the main character had, acting as a bit of a prologue and summarizing the major thematic points (symbollically, of course) of the story to come. Since I started it before Nov 1, it didn't qualify for Nano, which made me a bit miffed. I tried starting something else, something beand new and random. It was a decent idea, but every moment I spent writing that felt wasted, because I wanted to write about Charles. I'm only at 2710 words, but I'm happy with them. Screw Nano if that's not good enough for them. I'm just not in the mindset to handle 50000 words a month.
Bleh. Last year I wrote something I never intended on ever showing anyone else. I think you should just write whatever you feel like. Also, I started early, and finished early. So there. Then again, I didn't submit it for winning either, but I knew I'd done it.
I know what you mean about needing the motivator.
I hope you're feeling a little better than you were.
If you'd like some advice (and please feel free to discard it if it doesn't work for you), write it anyway. These things are never going to be fresher in your memory, and one day you might be very glad you have them to read.
