Ok, we have a black box and a blue box and a white airport thing. i can tell the airport b/c it is white and flashes lights at me. Which one is the router and which one is the modem? How do I plug and unplug in the right order that they still know to talk to each other? Where do I unplug--from the cord that plugs into that from the other box, from the airport to the blue box, from the power strip to all of them?
The modem is the one that has the actual internet pluggled into it. The router would be what your various ethernet cables are plugged into if you have multiple computers. It's like this:
Internet > Modem > Router > Computers
If you have one comp, you can just go from modem to comp. and skip the router.
You could just unplug the power strip. That would be the easiest, then plug it back in. Some devices may have an obvious button you have to push when you plug it back in to wake it back up and flash lights at you again.
We have a bunch of wireless stuff so I'm not entirely sure which is which. I think the cable thingy from the wall plugs into the black one, though, and then that one, as best as I can figure, goes to the blue one, which might be called 'the router'. :D You are so cute, trying to educate the fossil about fixying things. Dix has tried and I am like a wall that a sticky hand flops on, then slides down pathetically before getting dirt covered when it hits the floor. ^^ Though whether I'm the wall, the sticky hand, or the dirt clinging on is debatable. :)
I'll try fiddling with the power strip next time. Sometimes if I fight with it for about an hour, it will behave. I just get irritated when they say they have teh awesomz service, and I feel like ours is out more than it's in. ^^ :D
