She hasn't had an easy time of it lately and it shows, to those who know how to look for it--she's holding herself a little too stiffly, and her usual vibrancy has dimmed ever-so-slightly. [Violet wasn't one for books, no that was her brother, but she'd taken to the library to do... something. She's far more afraid of the castle than she'd like to admit, and since she didn't have her ribbon, she didn't want to invent. So she could at least read up on some of the mechanical things there were in other worlds.

Carrying a stack of books on cold fusion, Violet knocks into Amy's table.] Oh, sorry there. [She bends to pick up some of the books on the floor and then stands again.] Didn't realize I had so many books.

[Amy had heard the footsteps coming and started sliding her other book as nonchalantly as possible over the first one, hoping to look like she was maybe doing some research and going back and forth between two different sources. The jolt to her table takes her by surprise, though]

That's--wow, that is a lot of books.

[She offered a small smile.] It seems a lot of things have happened since my time. Engineeringly speaking. That isn't a word, but I'm not sure what to use in its place, so that's what I'll use. Engineeringly.

1935, New York. Though I've lived all over the place the last two years. [Violet smiles back.] I'm Violet, by the way. Violet Baudelaire. [She curtsy's lightly. Manners were an important thing for her, having been brought up in the upper class of Manhattan.]

I'm not surprised. Leadworth's about as big as a closet.

Oh, pardon me. I shouldn't have made assumptions. [Especially considering she was almost married when she was fourteen.]

Sounds like the Village of Fowl Devotees. Wasn't very fun staying there. Not much to do. And the adults were more aloof than I've ever met.

Yeah, there's not much to do in Leadworth either, besides going down the pub or swimming in the lake in summer.

I wasn't at VFD long enough to know about that, and I'm too young to drink. Well I was. That was before my birthday.

I'm not entirely sure how good I'd be at either of those. I'm not entirely a... people person as it were. I like doing things. I've also never really had the time to do that.

Trivia's easy. But it does require other people.

My brother's the one who would be better at that sort of thing. He likes facts and random knowledge. [She looks around the library.] He'd love a place like this. Sort of reminds me of our old library, only much grander. It's been an awfully long time since we got to just sit and read.
