Case 1: The Case of the Living Detective

[With a very undignified grunt, Watson manages to at least sit up and then look around the place, obviously something like a lobby if the decor and such were right, and well its Watson so he ends up just observing the area round him, even noticing the obviously open journal nearby, and even if he is dead acute observation is still a strong skill of ( Read more... )

Journal's right about the other world at least. You're in Paradisa, both the castle, and the world as far as we know.

Paradisa, like paradise yes? Is this world and its, castle, as idyllic as the name implies or is it something less, pleasant?

Less pleasant by far. If it is paradise if you want to see it that way. Perspective does help with that.

Less pleasant, seems like I left one less pleasant situation for another. Though perspective in my experience is always the deciding factor on things, as well as personnel feelings.

I'm not sure of what world you come from, sir, but where I come from the only Cabal I know is long dead.

[Very confused sounding here, Cabal dead? Different world?] I'm sorry, the world you come from sir? [Oh right the journal was telling the truth but hearing it from a person was much more interesting.] And that is, well as I am unsure of your Cabal's intent, the one in my world was bent on world conquest and killing those creatures that they didn't understand or exploited, and unfortunately they were still together when I left which makes it a very unfortunate thing if this is somehow a, trick or trap by them.[Because sharing that he was dead to all of the inhabitants reading this was not on his list of things to do for the day]

It would seem our Cabal's are different groups, then. Mine achieved it's goal over two hundred years ago, which was only to end the corruption with the ruling monarchy and end the use of heretical magic within Marathat. But I'm sure that won't mean much to you.

Re: dictated jamesholmes August 1 2011, 05:39:26 UTC
It would seem so good sir, as mine has yet to accomplish its goal. In fact, I was on such a mission to stop it when well, I ended up here, minus a few things but not really the worse for wear. However, now, Marathat? What or rather where is that?

And magic? [Cue skepticism here.] I dare say a man who sounds reasonable such as you surely doesn't believe in that? Surely there's some sort of, logical, scientific reason for what you call magic, there always is.

You're in Paradisa. [ the young, friendly and possibly chirpier than it should be - she's been having a good day - voice comes across the journal, ever so helpful ] And, unfortunately, this is another world.

[ she sighs, because there's never a good explanation for this ] Paradisa's a magical castle, as crazy as it sounds. It brings you here, can do things while you're here and then when it's bored you'll be sent back home. There are people that have been there for years without funding a way out so sadly, we're stuck. Sorry.

Paradisa hmm? I do dare say that people tend to lack imagination in naming things it seems, Paradisa, Sanctuary, Head of House...[He's just musing here, out loud yes but its fun no?] But another world entirely?

[Now he really can't take a young girl seriously when she's talking about magic...but then he remembers she sounds young and IS a girl, so, cue Victorian sensibilities much here?] A magical castle? I've seen creatures that could pass as unicorns, and dragons, and Bigfoot, and other mythical creatures, which were the by product of evolution. But magic? There is no such thing surely, everything can be explained by science, EVEN unicorns and dragons and Bigfoot, who is a very nice chap by the way.

However a castle growing bored? [Heavy on the sarcasm here even though it is true.] Well then I do dare say it doesn't grow bored of me considering I would go back to being dead in an underground tunnel.

As much as you'd rather not believe it - there aren't many who do - it's real. And those here that can use magic probably wouldn't appreciate being told it's not real. [ And yes, she's seen their magic thank you. She didn't think it existed either till she saw it - and that was on her first day too ] And I think there are dragons here, I know that there used to be a unicorn. [ She's going to watch for that Bigfoot now, though [

Hopefully it won't get bored quickly, then. [ While most people came from okay places, she knew that some came from worse. This would definitely be worse ]

You don't have to believe me but there's no other explanation for it.

Ahh but see young lady, if my ears don't deceive me and they rarely deceive me, I deal in scientific fact. Magic isn't real, its merely an ability derived from an as yet unknown source is all. Do remember electricity was seen as magic until it was studied, as were such things as the radio. [Now cue curiosity on this one.] Oh really? Now that IS interesting, seeing things like that here, dragons and unicorns yes? [And do please tell him if you see Bigfoot, he makes one heck of a good cup of tea.]

Yes well that would be nice of it no? I'd rather not go back to that.[Even though he was all prepared to die, staying alive is a nice thing too. Even in a funky castle with magic.]

Ahh well then as a man of science I will just have to see what I can do yes? Because as I said earlier, even electricity was magic until we tamed it.

[He's looking lost and River just happens to be strolling along on her way back to the TARDIS. You've gained her attention. It's the word Cabal. Someone she knows has mentioned that word before]

Excuse me, you must be new here. I'm Doctor River Song and I'd be happy to help if you are in need of anything?

[Ahh yes well you know, being dropped into a fancy castle when he was in the middle of dark and dusty tunnels is enough to even make him lost. And because he's all about observation he see's her coming over, and makes sure to give her room on the couch to sit. And really what is it with people and the name Cabal?]

Yes, yes I am certainly that. [And because she introduced herself he's going to stand somewhat shakily as he's getting used to his lack of an exobrace and the pain slowly and bow to her as he is a Victorian gentleman after all.] Doctor James Watson at your service, and well, an idea of where I am and why I seem to be missing something, and perhaps a cup of tea if at all possible? [And he's still standing until she sits, which he waves her to do.]

[River swishes her black dress aside for a moment so that she can settle in comfortably next to him. He looked like he wasn't going to sit again until she had taken a seat. How old fashioned of him. Luckily, she's used to the manners of all different time periods]

We all end up missing something when we come here. For instance, I lost a very special journal of mine.

[His longing for tea and mannerisms tell her that he's british and brits have to stick together]

I know just where to go for tea, so I can remedy that fairly quickly.

[James watches her and then smiles at her when she sits, secretly glad she took the hint without fussing over him and he sits down next to her, smoothing out his clothes.]

Ahh now see, that is, both disturbing and somewhat, gratifying to know that I am not the only one to lose something important. [No he's not about to share what he lost without a little prompting, mostly as he doesn't want to worry her, gentleman sensibilities and all.]

[Lets add in his rather obvious accent as well as to the evidence that he's a brit, and he fully agrees with that sentiment about sticking together, after all only another brit knows where to get good tea.]

That sounds like a lovely idea, Dr. Song yes? I have sadly been without a good cup of tea for some time now. [Well more like maybe two days his time but that seems like for ever to him as he's used to prompt tea service.]

[Conan had been in the lobby again, peoplewatching as he put his thoughts in order over the current situation. When he sees the man having trouble getting over to the couch the small boy stands up and makes over.]

Do you need help?

Judging from your question I assume you are a new arrival. This is a castle called Paradisa. All of us have been brought here as part of a kidnapping.

[James was just stumbling along as per his usual self, only to smile over at the boy, as he manages to sit down and shake his head.]

No no, as you can see I managed to get where I wanted to just fine, thank you though for asking.

[Now here he's going to stare at the boy to see if he is you know, telling the truth about being kidnapped. It is a rather serious accusation after all, but its better then say magic. So he'll nod and tilt his head to the side.]

Yes I am new here, and, kidnapping? That is a serious accusation young man, what evidence do you have to support such a charge?

Everyone I have spoken to here has the same story. They simply awoke here with no memory of how they arrived. So far I have not found a single person who arrived here willingly. That's the definition of kidnapping, isn't it? That a person should be transported against their will?

Re: Action jamesholmes August 1 2011, 21:30:40 UTC
Yes yes it is the definition of kidnapping.

[And everyone yes? Hmm, now you've gotten his interest if you've talk with everyone and know the definition of kidnapping, at least you're reasonable and not spouting off about magic.]

So now, as you seem to have information about this castle and such, do you know who kidnaps everyone? Or why? Or even how?
