[Peace Patrol Headquarters]

[Meeting time! Everyone come in, mingle, greet the newbies. Yuan's sitting at the front of the room, surrounded by more papers than usual, and looking...particularly grim? That seems strange, considering that they've won the big fight.

Haven't they? ...Maybe he's just tired.]

[Alan is just going to observe for a little while to get a feel of the place, taking a few sips of coffee here and there.]

It's more a question of what's believable. You sound more like Sherlock than Watson.

[A shake of his head again.] So what does that tell you then, if I sound more like Holmes then Watson?

[That leaves him with just a question:] How..?

[Which leads him to chuckle.] Mr. Bradley, you know I am a mad scientist of sorts, I am 160 years old and built myself a device to sustain my life for the last 135 years. Is it really so hard to believe?

Those I'm prepared to believe - the castle kidnaps all sorts of people. But Sherlock Holmes...every little boy has read that book!

Yes of course I know.

[Alan just shakes his head - more of an "I can't believe it!" than an "I don't believe you!" sort of way.]

Well, congratulations. You make a good influence.

[James gets this a lot so he's able to tell the difference. Better men then Alan have been stunned by this revelation.]

I would like to think I am at least. Sometimes I do have to wonder...[Mostly as it seems that even still observation is a skill few seem to practice.]

It can't change everyone, but it certainly is food for thought. At least it's out there for the possibility.

Yes it is however it is also available to criminals as well. Not every good thing goes without some blemish.

Hopefully it'll teach them some good. Sherlock always solves the cases, after all.

But you're right.

You could say that yes, though one case, no matter what I did until it was too late, I could not solve. I am not infallible Mr. Bradley, I learned that the hard way.

But of course I am right, you do not live as long as you or I without seeing that.

[He nods, face turning serious.] Though I can't speak from experience and I'd never wish death on someone, immortality is apparently not something that ends well. So perhaps it's best that you're not.

[He appreciates that really Alan, not many younger then him get it.] Immortality, rather longevity the none aging of a person who lives longer then normal but is still vulnerable to disease and starvation and other human vulnerabilities, is not something that, ends well no. You lose more then you gain, at least you appear to, but do I think it best I do not have it? [A pause as he thinks.] Now? Now yes I would say so, even with the missed chance of seeing the things others from my world have after my death. If you had, asked me even, ten minutes before I died in my world, I would have disagreed.
