[Peace Patrol Headquarters]

[Meeting time! Everyone come in, mingle, greet the newbies. Yuan's sitting at the front of the room, surrounded by more papers than usual, and looking...particularly grim? That seems strange, considering that they've won the big fight.

Haven't they? ...Maybe he's just tired.]

[Alan is just going to observe for a little while to get a feel of the place, taking a few sips of coffee here and there.]

Mhm. [Alan can speak from experience - at the beginning, Flynn had not been someone he viewed as a friend.]

What else do you do, when you're not playing 'mad scientist'?

[A wry grin at that, but hey Alan was allowed, he wasn't judging.]

I aide in the capture and housing of various abnormals if they prove a threat or are in danger.

[And he's a dash of a detective and inventor too, but hey everyone has hobbies.]

[Alan finishes off the last of his coffee, resting his cup in his lap as he listens.] Does that happen often?

[James settles back more into his chair, looking a little tired at the thought. Did it ever happen.] More often then you may think. Around the world as well, though any member of any one Sanctuary is not exactly, confined to their home country to respond, if they are needed.

[Alan looks thoughtful; that's not exactly good news.] Have you managed to get them all back?

[James shifts a bit more in his chair to better lean forward; this is always a fun conversation.] Managed to get them all back? Mr. Bradley the first thing you have to realize is not every abnormal lives in a Sanctuary. In fact the vast majority do not, for various reasons, cultural or merely they do not want to or they just prove no threat to the world at large or the world at large proves no threat to them. However the ones that do are the ones that teams are sent out after to retrieve them whether through stunning them after chasing them around or laying a trap, to place them in a Sanctuary somewhere around the world to insure not only their safety but also the safety of the world. There are of course exceptions, some are merely to large to place in a Sanctuary, others are tracked to insure they prove no threat but are allowed to wander the world.

When I said all of them, I meant the ones who were dangerous and got out.

[But he's glad for the explanation. He's trying to understand James' version of Earth a little better.] Sounds like a lot to manage. [Much more difficult than a company.]

My mistake then, but it is still much the same, and for the most part yes, we do, or they are killed if to much a threat to others.

[Explanations are his thing, so he was glad to explain it better no matter what. Especially with their Earth's very different.] It can be, coordinating efforts between the various Sanctuaries can be tedious. [Well more like pulling teeth.] But the effort is worth it in the end, usually.

[Especially tedious if you stick to telegrams...though he's not exactly sure how fast those travel.]

I can relate to that, though not quite on such a large [or potentially dangerous] scale.

[They travel faster then he probably thinks, at least with the telegraphs that they use in his time. It's more the Heads of House of each Sanctuary...but that's politics.]

Yes and I imagine you would...but I would also imagine that the political landscape of both of our, operations, is more alike then anything else.

[His grin is wry.] Yes, like you said - working with some of the board members isn't as smooth as it could be.

[Alan scoffs.] More interested in profit than anything.

jamesholmes September 2 2011, 22:50:10 UTC
It never is as smooth as we wish it were.

[A knowing sigh and nod at that.] Yes, because profit makes the world work, and is far more important then other more noble goals.

Exactly. What's economic development, increasing the standards of living, worth, when there's profit to be had? [His tone is scathing, but tired. It's been a long war.]

Things never change with progress. It is sadly the way the world has been even in my youth, profit is more important then you, or I, or the people who make it possible. [He notices that tiredness and just nods some, he understands and Alan's just won more points in his favor.]

Maybe one day they will. We just need the right people in the right places. [It's not probable, but it's possible. Especially if Sam steps up to the plate and takes over his father's company.]
