Case 3: The Offer

Aug 24, 2011 15:25

[James is sounding oddly tired considering he hasn't been up to much recently, well not physically at least.  But he also sounds, slightly excited really.]

If anyone would like to learn another language, I am more then happy to teach you, if you would like.  As a precaution of course in case things happen again like they did the last few days.

[ And someone looks up from where they've been sat reading ] With the filter now again in place would we be able to speak another language or would that be automatically translated?

Well then, I will just have to wait and see. [He's going to be on guard now.]

But Morse Code? The last time I any sort of code, someone was on a loss, that was an interesting talk we had. But it is surprising, I talked with someone the other day about people no longer learning it. But as did I recognize a number of languages being used, or at least parts of it.

Hopefully it will not disappoint. [ James, honestly? This is Helen you're thinking about ]

[ And as what should have been in that tag after the strike:

As is she: small areas are rather different from her Sanctuary, but it's not such a terrible adjustment - rather sort of a fond memory too ]

Speaking in code is a particularly interesting way of communicating. [ Though she mentally shudders at the mention of the loss. She is hoping that it is a while - or even better to be never - before she experiences one ] Perhaps that could be another task for you to consider? Or at the very least a personal endeavour? [ Even if she never spoke Latin - or especially Ancient Vampire - it had been helpful to know ]

Hopefully you will not. [He knows, this is why he's going to be pouring his own tea and all from now on.

It is a rather fond memory, after all things were much more fascinating back then, and having a good friend around made it even more so.]

Yes it was, apparently she used code a lot back in her home world, so the castle thought it would, make her speak it here. [He's worried about it himself, even if he is slightly interested in the learn experience, he's in no rush for it.] What to teach the other residents Morse Code? [He, hadn't thought about that actually so he just might do it.]

[ And no doubt there would be things that would be interesting here once again ]

At least there was some sense to it, if that has any meaning at all. [ With who they are and what they know... there's a high chance of disaster forming ] It is an idea. It's universal, at least where we're from and particularly fast for short and urgent messages - if required. [ Worst case scenario, obviously ]

[Oh more then likely, it's why he's getting very little sleep, his mind just runs over all of the interesting things.]

Yes there was, but I doubt she would say the same. Not exactly the best thing in the world. [Yes, yes there is...but it would be so fascinating to see.] It is universal indeed, and if someone from another world knew it then obviously it is universal there as well. It is, possible yes, and for emergencies it is better then yelling something and hoping someone gets it. [His mind's going again, and he's rubbing his forehead some in thought, Helen stop making him think.]

[ At least he has an excuse? ]

I doubt any would. I spoke with someone who had just recovered from being a pony. [ How she says that with a serious face is anyone's guess. Practise? ] I doubt that there was reasoning there.

[ She can't quite help that, and even if she did stop talking his mind would still be working ] Perhaps a basic 'S.O.S.' course?

[So true.]

I, can...[He's frankly at a loss as to what to say to that so he's going to mull it over in his head as tries to figure it out.] A pony...really? And I doubt so, except for amusement.

[So true, but her ideas are making him think more then he wanted to, not like he's complaining.] At least that yes, possibly even a basic way to give commands as well if there are ever group activities.

She's mentioned noticing no lasting effects from it which is thankful. [ Keep working that one ]

[ She's making up for lost time? Really, he should have realised what it would be like from the last time and weighed that up when asking her to stay. Oh, James ] With the need for strategic and quick commands of what has happened lately it would, sadly, seem a good idea.

Yes that is very thankful, and Nikola seems to not be, any more a pigeon then normal, so things go back to normal for that person apparently...[But still, a pony? Oh man.]

[Apparently so and while he knows it, he's just being reminded of it is all.] Yes it would seem like a good idea, given the circumstances and such, better to be prepared then not.

[ And the look that she gives you is rather incredulous ] A pigeon?

Hopefully there won't be a necessity for it. [ Or at least for some time ]

[He's laughing some at that look.} Yes, a pigeon. You know the dratted birds he's so fond of? Dr. Song told me about that, apparently he made a good one.

And yes that would be nice wouldn't it? Unfortunately, these things don't always work out as well as we hope. [How about never and James doesn't have to learn how to use this worlds radio?]

I- [ So lost for words on that. Although if she were in a better mood with Nikola than she presently were she'd keep it as something to tease him on ]

Holding onto the hope may not be a terrible idea, regardless. [ She was being realistic, but that would be nicer ]

[He's waiting for like her to laugh or something about that. Really just what had happened between her and Nikola?] So then, what all did he say?

No, it wouldn't be such a terrible idea. [He is too, but sometimes its nice to look away from the world for a minute and hope.]

[ You do not want to- never mind ] Rather little.

The only wonder comes with what would be next.

[He's curious alright? If his gentle teasing gets him nowhere then what is there to do but ask?] Oh really? Was he, upset or being his usual self?

And that is the way of life. Just waiting for the next thing, and hoping it's good.
