Give me some of that rust of which you speak. It must be good stuff.
God, I love your Mulder, snatching defeat out of victory. He burns. That's how I see him too, so full of unique, unquiet strength, totally relentless, and beautiful.
Of course, I love Mulder with Krycek. Alex is strong enough for him and he bruises but does not break.

Wow, what a scenario, terrible and wonderful. You've left me with a lot to think about. How they defeated the aliens, why Doggett was evil somehow, for whom Mulder is morning and why Scully called for Alex, but still hates him to this day in your story.
None of those answers matter particularly - as a mood piece this works very, very well.
The inexpicable bond between M and K is there also and so very well and mysterious;y maintained,I appreciated that. Keeping that kind of tense mystery is something I find very hard to accomplish.

It's really interesting that you saw Doggett as a bad guy. In my head, he died saving Scully, but I can see how I worded it vaguely so as to allow another interpretation. That was a nifty little coincidence.

Thanks for the feedback. :)
As I was envisioning it, this was Mulder's sort of catch-all day of mourning. William, Doggett, and Skinner all died and it's probably a little tough on him to have named his baby girl after Melissa. And I don't know exactly what the battle against colonization was like in this world, but I'm sure there were other friends and comrades whose death he had to mourn. And, in a little secret place in his head, I think Mulder may be mourning the fact that it's all over and that this is the end of the adventures, the end of his importance.

We are so lucky to have you and some of the other fantastic new additions to the wheel this time. Thank you for joining! This story is so evocative, so layered with memory and emotion and regret. It has a stillness you're afraid to break by asking too many questions, not matter how much they burn in your belly. You've created that quiet, barely-vibrating tension of a thread about to snap, whether it be the thread between Mulder and his ghosts or Alex and his stoic denial. As Ursula said, if this is "rusty", then I want to know where to buy me some of that rust!

A melancholy, evocative story that had me wondering who Mulder was mourning, and left me with so many questions. Loved reading this from Alex's pov, and loved the way Mulder read his thoughts, finishing his sentences in such an eerie way. Wonderful story.

Interesting. Who was he mourning?
I think you got the perfect somber tone.
