Our sex teacher was more than happy to tell us where to get contraception and was basically telling us not to have sex at all, she was talking about what would happen to the body if we did. I was like wtf how are we suppost to have sex when were older if there are all these bodily harms? Later someone brought up abortion and like everyone raised their hand that it was ok except for this one girl and she started preaching about how "everyone is god's creature" and how she was catholic and all. I was like um I'm catholic to and I think it's ok that shut her up.

They manage to make sex sound like it'll ruin the rest of your life because they only talk about the bad things. They tend to avoid discussing the good side.

If the teacher was telling you not to have sex until marriage, it might be because people who are married get tested for STDs (I guess those are the bodily harm' things?). But I'm not sure if they do that where you live.

Good for you for putting up your hand and challenging the assumptions. I'm very proud of you. :-)

The whole thing sound appalling.

Feel better...

BTW, K and I were talking on the long drive back from her chemotherapy session. We're both uber-impressed with you - of you knowing yourself so well at a young age and particularly being where you are - in the middle of the culture war indoctrination zone.

People like you are the hope for the future. Simply because you are inclined and willing to think for yourself.

Thanks!

I don't know if I'll make much of a difference over here, though. People seem intent on staying in their mental comfort zones.

I think you'd be surprised.

You'll make a difference.

we had 2 old bitches come to our heath class to talk about how we should all wait for marriage to have sex.

at the time, i was the class activist (still am, even at the ripe old age of 22) and i asked "What if we're gay and we can't get married?"

Lots of giggles, blushing, and "Well, it's different for gay people!"

i didn't push further.
