my husband had his top surgery last august (was a B-cup) so I will try and help :)
In terms of carrying his own lunch and what not.. week or two depending on how fast he heals and how high his pain threshold is. My hubby found he was ok as long as he didn't have to reach high or low, both caused a LOT of pain. Basically anything outside of knee-to-shoulder range was a no-go for about a month. He could not wash his own hair for about 4 weeks, dressing as ok so long as he had button up shirts (nothing over the head). Taking the subway... that would mostly depend on how crowded it is, he will NOT want anyone to bump his chest.
as for lifting your son.... 6 weeks may be pushing it actually, especially if he squirms. You don't want him doing any serious lifting for about 3 months.
Thank you for both the logistical suggestions and the hopeful words! You folks have a really positive space here.
I never thought of the straws or the pillow. Adding those to the travel list! Did I mention that we're taking the family, plus my mom and our best friends, to DC for this ordeal?
Oh, BTW, your wedding pics are gorgeous! Mazal tov, belatedly.
I just wanted to add that my partner is planning on top surgery this summer, too, and so all of this advice is great to hear. He's another in the quickly-bored/cranky-without-activity boat and I've been worried about keeping him occupied and happy for the first while.
Good luck to the OP and when it's our turn I'll be asking for your advice! :)
No real wisdom, but I just wanted to say hello! I'm in my 30s and my partner is trans-identified (ftm, though non-transitioning at this point). I was/am a lesbian/bi/something or the other, and we have a 19-month old son! And we live in the Boston area too! So, I just wanted to wave to you and say hi, and who knows, maybe we should get together sometime for a playdate for the little ones
( ... )
Howdy, Artemis. Thanks for the kind thoughts. I mentioned your post to my husband, and he said, "If you make friends with her, maybe her partner and I can hang out, too."
:) Sorry - just now seeing this! My partner said basically the same thing, which is sort of funny... lol!
We really should get together with the kids sometimes - is your son just barely 2 or almost 3 or somewhere in between? Stuart's 19 months and seems to really like other kids, particularly older kids, so I imagine he'd have fun... he's obsessed with cars and balls for the most part, well, and lately food, since I'm pretty sure he's going through some sort of growth spurt! My email address is my screen name at gmail dot com, so feel free to email if you want...
Oh, and I can't believe y'all are packing up and going to DC for this! Sounds like quite the adventure! But at least you'll have family and friends there to support you, which makes SUCH a difference, I'm sure.
