I know exactly what you mean about weeding out negative stuff. Sometimes it is a VERY difficult thing to do and follow through on. But you're right because the time away from the things you know bring you down gives you the space and freedom to get to know yourself and find your own happiness.

That is exactly what I meant. It's very true, weeding out all the negatives was one of the best things I ever did for myself.
