As it comes to light that the Pakistani government not just ignored Osama Bin Ladin's presence in their country but appear to have provided him defense, guards, and tip-offs when the US was coming, I feel that the minimum action should be to bar, for the foreseeable future, all trade to Pakistan. I dunno, I knid of like our currently infuriatingly condescending approach.

"Oh yeah, we love the help you're giving us.. here, have some of our folding money for some tip-offs, don't spend it all in one place. Oh, did we break your laws, cross your territory, and kill some dudes from the sky? Sorry, our bad. What, you don't like it? Go on the internet and complain."

If they were compliant with Bin Laden, then we should first take their nukes away, then take away their ability to make more.

Oddly, both the US and Pakistan dislike each other, but need each other. I'm not quite sure who needs the other more.

The US needs their contacts with the Taliban to stay on schedule for the withdrawal timetable the administration is planning. Pakistan needs the US as a counterweight to India.

Both are happily double dealing the other. And both have very different interests in how Afghanistan turns out. But, both need the other for those very endgames.

It'll be interesting to watch.
