I got my start on Wolfenstein 3d, then this. Lately, I've been replaying both DOOM and DOOM II.
What got me started on this "retro" kick was hearing that DOOM III is going to be released soon. Funny thing is, I'm not looking forward to DOOM III nearly as much as I probably ought to; I think it's because I enjoy "filling in" the picture with my imagination with the more "primitive" graphics and gameplay of I and II.
I seriously need to dig out the userpic I made of the DOOM space marine...
I used to build my own levels and import alternate graphics ranging from the chicken launcher to naked chicks. I remember playing on a computer that couldn't keep up with the graphing calculator I just bought. I remember when Dark Forces came out and I was astounded that it would take 8 whole megs of ram to run it. I remember the first time I connected with a friend and deathmatched... or logging onto BBS's and playing with several people. Ahh BBS's... before the internet... before AIM (etc)...
