It isn't natural, People!

May 03, 2006 20:08

I am tired of finding people advertising their products as "All Natural" when they contain an artificial ingredient. I am sorry, but High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is a man-made sugar made from corn starch using chemicals, bacteria, and enzymes. Studies show it is linked to obesity and diabetes. It has been shown that the chemical structure is ( Read more... )

Dammit... this really limits the things I can eat without guilt.
Ignorance is bliss. *weeps for loss of soda and yummies*

It wouldn't be so bad if they just wennt back to sugar. Real sugar is not as sweet as HFCS, and has less calories.

I don't know about others, but I can taste the difference. HFCS tastes sweeter than sugar to me, and I don't like the taste to be honest.

Unless Canada imports from the USA, their soda should still use sugar. At least that is what I heard from someone there.

But take a 12 ounce glass of water and try to dissolve 10-13 teaspoons (1/4 cup) of sugar in it. You might need to boil the water first. Once you succeed, take a sip. Even if you add some flavor, I am willing to bet it would be too sweet.

My iced tea I make uses 1/2 a cup for over a gallon, or about 1-2 teaspoons for that same size serving. I like to use a mix of regular, brown, and raw sugar. For Thai tea, I use palm and raw sugar. The calories are much less, and the flavor of the sugar enhances the taste.

Yeah, i dont eat 95% of that junk listed. Thank goodness!!! I have to admit, right now I do have wheat thins, and coke. I dont drink coke, cant stand it, but I keep it for guests. But yeah, I was just remarking today in one of my classes over how my 100% juice I bought out of the vending machines has additives to it aside from juice!!! WTF! I fucking hate how food companies in america get away with all this shit and get to misadvertise it!

I still don't understand hoow they can call it natural. Herfe is a link to how the stuff is made:

Seems to me that hemlock is a more natural ingredient than HFCS, and hemlock will kill you.

I agree with you! That's scary (not that I agree with you, but the facts that you mention).

Strange thing. I received a letter from Ben & Jerry's todaay. Their customer rep explained that they are proud of the fact that their ice cream is made from All Natural ingredients, and that corn syrup is all natural.

That is the problem. I wrote them back and explained that corn syrup and High Fructose Corn Syrup are two entirely different things.

Corn syrup has been around for over 100 years. It is less soluble and less sweet than HFCS. It can be broken down and used by the body easily. HFCS has only been around for 30 years and now they are finding ot that it can't be processed by the body easily, so the body stores it as fat.
