ASFMAs and Media Natcons

Jul 01, 2009 11:40

If anybody out there can remember back that far I'm trying to compile a list of all of the Australian Media National Conventions (should be easy) and a list of all of the winners of the ASFMAs (not so easy).

I can probably get some of this by wading through old copies of Ethel at the MSFC but I suspect the earlier cons will predate Ethel.

I thought I recall seeing a list around somewhere, but I can't say I've seen it recently. I suspect you might have to trawl through old Ethels. And, when you've compiled the list you can then add it to the Wikipedia article that only lists the 1988 awards.

The Wikipedia list was part of the inspiration for this quest. The early issues of the Bullsheet (i.e. The Ortlieb days) have given me the nominees and winners for 1994 (Constantinople), 1996 (Swancon whatever) and 1997 (Basicon 2) and I got the winners only for 1995 (Basicon 1). So I have at least got the last 4. Hongcon was 1992 and Zencon was 1988.

Not to sure if I can help... but I will think about it.
If you were doing all the Star Walking conventions they have the Obies.

I won two! And George won two! Does that count towards the list? Or are you only including talented winners?

Got both of yours, 1994 & 1997, and one for George in 1997. What was George's other one for?

He got:

1996 Best fan writer (not 1997)
and
1991 Best amateur audio/visual

And mine were best fan artist - 1993 and 1996 (not 1994 and 1997)

Where are you getting your dates from? Or are you noting the date the award was handed over as opposed to the date on the plaque?

Good point, I've just got them listed by the convention date.

I was almost certain that these had been captured already on one of the 'usual' websites. AUSSF or Ditmar or something. but I could be misremembering.
Oh, and if you fling me an email and remind me (for a time when I am more awake) I can email details from the Domesday Book, whcih will give the Natcon names and probably guest names (maybe committee names) for some of the media Natcons. Cheers.

They don't seem to be, although Rose thinks that they may have been part of Marc Ortlieb's defunct site. The details from the Domesday book would be good, that will get me the convention names at least.

Y'know, that rings a bell. Which means perhaps that marc still has the info somewhere.
Anyway, from the Domesday Book;
1983 - Conquest. (brisbane?)
1984 - Medtrek
1985 - Con Amoré
1986 - Galactic Tours
1988 - Zencon II
1989 - Conspire
1990 - Huttcon
1991 - Vampiricon Inc
1992 - Hongcon Inc
1993 - Dufcon
1994 - Constantinople
1995 - Basicon
1996 - Swancon 21
1997 - Basicon 2

Hmm, I wonder if there was a 1987 natcon that didn't make it into the book or they just skipped a year.
