I departed
Holding them
Beneath the tide
Consigned a sunken Atlantis
My fading reflection.
Through the rippling surface
We look at one another
Drowned.

those familiar eyes
recall
something lost in memory
wisps of hair
smudged moments
antecedent nascence
not quite dying;
mutely
fading

Wonderful the way
bridge and voice
and remembered
become the beige
cracked wall spreads
in solid
bones and body
breathing

all boundaries dissolve,
awash, a wash of colour
across our skin,
through our eyes,
our nerves and fibres,
lines and horizon,
the fringes of recollection,
this receding penumbra
overwhelms and extends
us

whirring
chirping
Something there
in the long
uneven growth
grasshopper, cricket, cicada,
perhaps
A Bus
forward driving
pulls me: noise, smell, the hairs on my neck from a perilously
close mirror
to measure my steps
carefully

why water
cut flowers
so close to death?
tenuous
life is more precious.

past the horizon lies
the memory of your dying -
I whisper in your ear
all i can muster
and hold my hand on your labouring chest
I wasn't there
the threads of you snipped
ripped into the darkness
a resonating note -
past the horizon
I hear you whispering in my ear
all you can muster
and feel your hand on my labouring chest

i left holding them
beneath the tide
aghast;
consigned to them
sunken atlantis
trailing my revised reflection.
i return to them
unknown
to me;
above nostalgic smiles
their watery eyes betray
my drowning.
