A Dragons fell off horse!Sam last Wednesday and I've royally screwed up my back and hip.  Sixty billion x-rays and ultrasounds later, I'm told I have a grade 2 tear of the gluteus medius muscle near where it joins the ilium.  So basically I fell off my horse and ACTUALLY busted the right-hand top middle of my ass. Between the squished nerves and ( Read more... )

Damn. Nerve pain is the worst, no doubt. Relieving the pressure is about the only cure I know of. Is that from swelling of the injured muscle near/around the nerve? If so, I think you're just going to have to go the ice, heat, anti-inflammatory route until the inflammation and swelling go down. If the pinched nerve is from some misalignment of joints, then chiropractic might help. So sorry...it sounds miserable.

The nerve pain is, I think, completely unrelated to the ass injury and more to do with the fact that I already damaged my L5 in a previous fall years ago. I've given that a helluva rattle in this fall, and most of my L5 pain presents through the hip as a general rule. So I basically have a muscle tear at the top back of my hip, and a lot of nerve pain through the rest of my hip from my previous back injury that I have angered again ( ... )

OMG, dragons, I'm so sorry! No stranger to falls off horses, nor to nerve pain (the worst, by far - and I have bone breaks, dislocations, terrible bruises and a hell of a lot of bad cuts for comparison ( ... )

Yeah, as I said to someone above, I have a feeling a Dragons on muscle relaxants might be very, very bad for the world ( ... )

Hopefully the acupunture will help, I've wanted to try it for a long time, but don't have access 'round here (wilds of Kentucky). Horses are dangerous critters at times, for sure, but there's nothing else I love more. After my neck/nerve injury last fall I wasn't able to even clean stalls for over 4 months, and am still recovering 8 months later. But thank the Lord, I'm back to cleaning stalls, riding, and playing with 2 of the cutest fillies you've ever seen. I'm a little more cautious these days, but getting bolder and stronger all the time. Hopefully you'll be better soon, too (and recover quicker than I did ( ... )

Man, I'm sorry to hear that, and I hope it starts getting better soon.

I did an excellent job of spraining my foot two weeks ago; it was excruciating the first three days and now significantly better (two weeks later and still on crutches). I will never again wear new platform shoes and think about 50 things other than the stairs I'm walking down.

Thing is I know it could have been so much worse. What you've got sounds dreadful. You've got my best wishes and good vibes speeding toward you.

I'm pretty sure if I tried to swim right now, I'd just sink. Just reading the words "butterfly kick" makes me wince. The muscle I've torn is largely responsible for lifting of the leg at the knee and all rotation movement in the hip, so even if I ignore the pain and push on through, I don't have much movement. I can lift my knee up until my foot is about six inches off the ground with a fair amount of pain, but any further than that it just won't physically go because the muscle refuses to do anything beyond that point. If I lift my arms above chest height, everything in my lower back seizes because of the damaged disc and I get shooting sciatic pain down my left side into my leg. If I step or lean sideways either left or right, same effect. The only thing I can do that doesn't make me want to hit people is shuffle forward at snail pace. *facepalm* But I'm off to Thailand in couple of weeks, so I will give the pool therapy a go then. Hopefully kicking will seem less offensive to my pain receptors by then.

Trust me, I'll be giving that pool at the resort in Phuket a sound seeing-to. I plan to do little else.

Besides lying around looking killer in my bikini. *has taken many painkillers and is clearly delusional*

Oh dude, that sucks so much!

My dad gets some kind of nerve-deadening injection every couple weeks, for his many ugly intertwined back problems. It's helping him more than chiro, physio, massage, or acupuncture, although he said there was something to physio and acupuncture too. It's too much of a mess in there for surgery to be viable, apparently.

See, my hat is off to people like your dad. I'm assuming/praying/hoping this will all settle down after a few weeks and I can go back (no pun intended) to the manageable background pain I'm accustomed to from the good ole L5. I don't know how people live with this type of pain day in, day out, permanently.

Doc said to leave the physio for the first week or so, let the injuries settle down a bit, so I guess I need to make an appointment for next week? Back to the acupuncturist on Friday. She said it's mega-locked up in my hip at the moment and may take a few sessions to see improvement, so I'll stick with it for a few and see what happens. Bit pricey at $90 a pop, but if it works, it's money well spent, right?

My severe condolences to your dad. If this looks like it's going to be a long term thing, I'll definitely be chasing up the nerve deadening injections with my doc. Thanks for the heads up. *smish*
