There are kids all over my neighbourhood growing up in the echoes of the past, the racism, the genocide, the birth of Canada as a nation. Today, there are more First Nations kids in foster care than there were in residential schools, in a province where First Nations people make up thirty percent of the population, they make up about half, I think, the inmates in our prisons.

I read a peace on the divide between Palestine and Israel once. A young man who sold dvds of martyrs beside cds and cheap jewelry said, "When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose."

I think that's very true.

To give Colonel Roosevelt his due, you have to take into account the time at which his remarks were made. He's a evil racist sonofabitch because he mistrusted Indians when nobody else did either, yet he appointed the first black female postmaster, had her to dinner at the White House, and refused to accept her resignation when threats were made against her family. He sent her a security detachment and paid her wages in full despite the fact that she resigned. Oh my, what a bigot.

Personally, coming from several different racial backgrounds that were oppressed at one time or another, I think everyone should just get the fuck over themselves, stop whining about shit that happened before they were born, take responsibility for our own lives and actions, and treat each other like human beings.

Besides, trying to make somebody feel bad for being the same color as the people who oppressed your ancestors, that's racism. It pisses me off.
