My country was Albania (G10 TEFL 2007-2009). Do you have any questions in particular?

should I be studying the language on my own? couldn't hurt, right? how thorough is the training? should I expect to be lost for the first year as to my job?

Couldn't hurt, but you really don't need to. I started with the Pimsleur Albanian course on CD before I went. It gave me the comforting illusion of being more prepared, but it wasn't really of much practical use. I learned more on my first day of language class than in the whole Pimsleur course ( ... )

wow, that is super-helpful! thank you ever so much!
I am hoping that my fluency in Russian will make a helpful contribution, that and the seeming ease with which I seem to pick up languages - that will stand the test of Albania ;)

I am terrified of being useless or doing meaningless work, but I do realize that it's all me - this is the time to shine and make the best of the situation. I am glad that there is always an opportunity to do more (like teach English or what not), I would hate to be bored and not make the best use of my time, which has happened before.

Oooh, thank you for the FB suggestion, I will scavenge for a group now! I feel as though I'm jumping the gun, but then it is preliminary research, so it cannot hurt.

And thank you once again for the info, I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go on with the research.
