I would say that in my relationship, we are very open about how we feel. I mean, not initially but it only takes a couple hours to go by before we both tell each other how we feel. There has never been a time, to my knowledge, that we've gone more than a day or two without saying what's on our minds.
I think you really have to know who you're dating. Mo and I didn't get to seriously know each other until last summer over the phone for 3 months. Long, long, long conversations about our life and expectations, fears, pain, and joy before we met up again for school and connected it all. Sounds kind of weird, but I don't think you need to see someone face to face to connect either, all you need is a way to communicate.
if one loves someone.. is cos one feels comfortable around this person.. then there's no need to hide one's true identity and feelings.. Love is being able to be yourself around the person you love! otherwise that ain't love!!
I'm agree with you with the thing: you can't love someone you don't know! For instance.. im gonna ask you something...
ammm ok! that's very sweet of you!! but you were suposse to say you don't love my grandma.. then I'll tell you .. you don't love her cos you don't know her and you cannot love someone you dont know! lol
I have never been in a relationship, but I think communication is MAJOR! Unfortunately, I am horrible at telling people how I feel because I am either afraid of how they will react (from past experiences or just jumping to conclusions) or I DO tell them and they don't react how I would like so I just pretend I didn't mean what I said or whatever. Kind of sad, I know.
Anyway, I think that is why I said no to the guys who ask me out because I could NEVER talk to them about me feelings especially since they couldn't even keep a NORMAL conversation going with me! Yeah and people thought I was weird for saying no! Sigh. ;)

I hope you are starting to feel better though.
