i don't think i'll ever understand what prompts people to be cruel. it's obviously not a concept i'm unfamiliar with, but when i'm cruel, there's at least some basis for it. i'm never needlessly harmful

it saddens me even more that this woman judges without even trying to understand. she says she searched in the internet about piercings, but obviously didnt take much notice.
my mother isnt against piercings, she would just never get one. which is why i gave her the common curtesy to wait until i was of legal age. ive waited my share and i still wanted them done. it may hurt from time to time, when i change it and such, but i still love it. people like Mrs. Darvick only make me want to put a chain from my ear to my nose stud.
You say it's disgusting that people that choose to be publically pierced are forced to deal with the stares...I say most of the people who get pierced, whether they are willing to admit it or not, get pierced for that reason alone.
i don't think you know enough people who are publically pierced. i don't enjoy being stared at, ever. confrontation is ok, whether it be bad or good (i'd prefer good, of course)
i want a labret, a tongue ring, and just recently a septum ring because I think it will look purdy, not because people are going to stare and say "look at that freak." very few modded people that i know enjoy being judged because of their piercings and mods.
in any case, i don't think you're the best judge on why people get pierced because you yourself aren't.
People who modify themselves (be it piercings, tattoos, breast implants, etc.) don't do it strictly for the unwanted attention and repeated stupid questions of total strangers. They do it because they want to. But if you're not comfortable with dopey comments from random bumpkins, you might want to think it over.
It's funny that you mention that I'm a poor judge of character on piercings, because I'm not pierced. But at one time, I had more piercings on my body than you do now. I outgrew them.
As far as the story goes, the woman is a dopey cunt who should never leave the serene tranquility of her upper-middle-class neighborhood or turn on her TV. Her comments shouldn't upset you this much. Besides, she has no real power; this isn't Oprah we're talking about.
i wasn't to the point of tears, hon...i was just in an angsty "i hate the world" mood, and there she was. :) people like her make me lose faith in the human race
