OBJECTIVELY, if anyone came over to me and told me "THIS IS THE PROTAGONIST OF MY NOVEL" and gave me Fon's description. I'd probably lol. I mean, I love the kid he's an awesome character, but yeah, total Sue.

And I just got all /o\ because I never really thought of explaining where I'm coming from. The anon never came back and never really stated concerns beyond "I THINK YOU'RE NOT DOING IT RIGHT" which was too general and didn't give me anything to address. THUS A GENERAL EXPLANATION WAS IN ORDER.

Unless they come back with specifics? I would handwave it. It's good to get crit, but it's not good to worry too much over it. You've seem pretty solid with him from what I've seen and recall of that hasty read-over of the canon.

I dunno, the internet description of "Mary Sue" is pretty accurate with Fon, I don't think that counts as bad characterization when it... ... well it isn't. It's not something he can help being, anyway. No point giving him flaws that aren't there.

I do have a lot less canon with him than I'm used to having, but I think I'm mostly getting him right. And magical unicorn skills aside, I think he's a very three-dimensional character.

Having a fondness for Mary Sues (*coughcough*), I will have to agree that Fon does seem to meet the description, but I also think he's played in a way that makes him interesting and uses however much of canon you know so far.

Having read up to uhhhhh . . . chapter 12 of the series (I need to catch upppp), I can say that so far, I think you're doing an awesome job. You've got the serious and crazy and fail all nailed down pretty well.
