4) "The Blood Countess", Andrei Codrescu (fictionalised accounting of the true crimes of Erzsébet Báthory. Gruesome yet intriguing.)

5) "Bridget Jones's Diary", Helen Fielding (Lighthearted and amusing, especially as I haven't seen the film.)

6) "Tao of Pooh", Benjamin Hoff (Taoism illustrated using Pooh! Charming and enlightening.)

what's on your 50 book challenge list, and can we recommend you some stuff?

Recommend away, Jack! I am ALWAYS looking for something good to read. I don't do well with fluffy/happy usually ("Bridget Jones's Diary" was a stretch for me ) so NO romances, please!

I have on the bedside "The Celestine Phophecy" and this weekend I am going to pick up "Crime and Punishment"...I recently re-read "The Brothers Karamazov" and it put me on a Dostoyevsky kick.

Lust: Lolita by Nabokov

Life: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Garcia Marquez

Comedy: A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole

I've got a million of them, I can just keep rattling them off, but these 3 are some of my favorites

You finished this??? Do you have to smoke crack before or after to actually get through this book?

This book actually signaled a major turn in my life, the last time I will EVER read a book recommended by Oprah!!!

But Confederacy of Dunces was FABULOUS! (It made me want to move back to New Orleans in a tragic sort of way!)

Wheeee! You have been busy reading!

Looks like you got me beat :-P.

In my post, the first couple I listed I had already finished this year, and I was over half-way through the third. But this... six books and you're not even to the end of the first month!

You should probably be doing the 200 Book Challenge .

All that aside... I've got three books on the go now, so I should be updating soon.

I know... I agree with you. I only just finished book 3, myself. I'm all green with envy and all that -- speedy readers.

I am SUCH a fast reader, but it is somewhat frustrating as I am ALWAYS out of reading material. That is why I often resort to re-reading books I already have so many times.

I find that I re-read books as well. The Clancy books I'm currently reading are all on their fourth read except for Rainbow Six which I haven't read even once... yet. I expect you'll probably see Boy's Life by Robert R. McCammon pop up sometime this summer as I read that book at least once a year. It's my favorite book ever with Time Enough For Love by Robert A. Heinlein a close second.

There is a 50 books in a year challenge group somewhere here on LJ...so I thought I would take the challenge myself and keep track here in my journal. I ALSO am an avid reader and so this will be fun for me. ladywraith and barsoom have also taken up the gauntlet and are keeping track in their OWN journals! C'mon Tina, join in the game!

*grins* why the hell not, i'm not in school this semester, it'll be a good way to keep the mind sharp.

Where do I get said list?
Are any books off limits?
Who keeps tally?
What are the consequences if you slip behind?

Well, you really just read anything that you want, then post it in your journal. Nothing is off limits and you keep your own tally in your LJ. Of course, if you DON'T tally up then all the people who know you are doing this laugh and make snide remarks behind your back. If you slip behind then Shiva the Destroyer will pay you a visit!
