1. What is Art? First of all it is different things to different people. To me it is something that I find appealing that was created by another person. Could be a painting, a photo, or even a story, book, play, building, or movie

1) Wow... they don't fuck around do they? They go straight for the challenging question. Okay. Art is something created to show the viewer a new or interesting perspective on something. Whether it's a beautiful painting using a new photorealistic technique, or a really abstract view, or whether it's making an art installation of a urinal placed on it's side and signed with someone else's name2) I like seeing creative new perspectives, especially on day-to-day objects

Duchamp was hilarious. I don't know if he just had a great sense of humor, or if he was a pretentious prick. Personally, I lean more towards the first.
I would also add, that 9/10 I don't "get" abstract art at all. Ironically enough, when I do paint, it tends to be abstract, but I understand the levels of meaning, because they're personal. I tend to have NO idea what the hidden meanings are in others' abstract art until I hear or read some sort of a description. But often times artists don't like describing abstract art, because they want the user to draw their own conclusions. Many times the title helps, but often times it doesn't. So unless abstract art really grabs me in some way, I generally don't take the time to explore it.
1. Art is anything that you create that communicates an idea to someone else.
2. I like how universal and ever changing it is.
3. Not enough people feel confident enough to explore it.
4. Yes, it gives us a way to express things that we do not have the words to express. When the cave dwellers started painting it was because they were trying to communicate when they didn't have a spoken language. People are still using art to communicate difficult subjects like identity, sexual tension, violence, etc.
5. I've been exposed to a great deal of art in my life. (I'm an art teacher, so exposere comes with the territory)
6. Yes. Salvador Dali's Elephants. It's one of his little known pieces. Simple and elegant. It makes me think of things bigger than myself. And it makes me think of my trip to Italy.
7. Yes. I dabble in a little of everything. But I mostly create art with ink or photography.
