Hello LJ world. This is one of those "It's been awhile and I feel compelled to post something" entries as there is lots going on, and there's some Gabe stuff I'd like to remember in the future

Dan is also obsessed with Christmas lights. I feel like I've been orphaned from Christmas traditions for awhile since I'm not religious, but it's really been fun to see his wonder and joy at it all.

I agree with you that children need to learn social rules, but I'm also noticing this intense hatred for children in our society(I'm assuming it's just our society). Wow. I wonder why that is. While we can reinforce rules, a toddler simply doesn't have the impulse control yet to adhere to or remember them all. They're still little primates being integrated into society:) Dan's been crazy at storytime at the library lately...not wanting to sit down, not wanting to stay in the circle...I'm wondering if I should take him to the older kids' storytime and maybe he'd sit if the older kids were sitting. No clue:)

Yes, I've also noticed a general disdain for children, which makes me sad. My whole approach to the "learning social rules" problem is not to get mad or to discipline Gabe when he won't sit still, use his 'inside voice', etc, but to simply keep telling/showing him what he's supposed to do and positively reinforce when he does it. I figure that with consistency he will eventually get it and by the time he has some impulse control that consistency will pay off. That is if the Miss Cyndi's of the world stop interfering. :p
