I'm seeing Mattila as Manon Lescaut here in February. *fist pump*

Speaking of Oscar Wilde, do please tell about the Salome production later on.

I hope you enjoy Goblet of Fire. The canon-Nazis may freakout, but I'm thinking of the films like fan fic: some meh; some brilliant variations.

Damn. *envious* I get why Mattila sings in Paris and New York and such places, but it's terrible that we get to see so very little of her. I mean, Manon Lescaut is a ludicrous opera (and that's saying something), but to see her in that dying-in-desert scene and, wow.

I have no idea on who this person (Marion Ammann) is who sings the role of Salome, but at least I'm avoiding Cynthia "she of the one-octave vibrato" Makris. Should be extravagant a show, if anything. Looking forward to it very much.

I used to be all Nazi about the non-canonical aspects of the films, but I've come to enjoy them as pretty pictures. Very pretty pictures with characters that have familiar names and work in a universe of great CGI.

The libretto is disjointed and missing chunks of key interaction between Manon and Des Grieux. I much prefer Massenet's versions. Elizabeth Futral did it here a few years ago. She looked fifteen in the opening, was ignorant and innocent, discovered sex, discovered her power, reveled in feeling invincible, and then died in the road looking starved. I heart Ms. Futral -- but the libretto gives her the scope to do all that.

"One-octave vibrato", heheheh.

Since you haven't seen it, I'll just say that GoF contains some great ensemble acting by the students and yet it is still about Harry, thanks to Radcliffe. I look forward to your feedback on Fiennes.

Oh, I didn't know that! How curious. I just recall going massively WTF? during the first time I saw it, and then trying to read the synopsis with the house lights down.

You write in so many fandoms! How amazing!

This should help you keep tabs on comments until LJ gets back to normal...though you probably knew about it already. ;)

I'm running on too little sleep, or I'd have more to say.

*hugs*

Apparently, there is no end to the fandoms I can obsess about writing-wise. ;P Currently, I'm trying to avoid being lured into the House and Stargate: Atlantis slashiness... half a dozen should be enough, no?

I like the idea of inserting extra verses! Thanks for the E/GG. It has made me very happy.

I was sort of nervous about inserting more poetry, thinking it might be sacrilege or something but, erm, Tolkien was no master poet. So I thought it'd be all right. So thank you! Glad you enjoyed. :)

Aww, elven lore of Ages past! 'Twas good & moving & bittersweet, and all seen through the eyes of a hobbit as both Bilbo & LotR... With a tone neither too lofty nor too common.

That was Tolkien slash that I could read, too - I find that JRRT's stuff doesn't make me crave hot n sweaty manlove, on the contrary... Can't say why.

But this piece was delicate and the tone felt right to me. So, thumbs up!

Thank you! Am very happy to hear you enjoyed the yarn. :) And yeah, I know what you mean -- Tolkien seems strangely impervious to out-and-out smut in my head, too. The language just doesn't seem to lend itself to that sort of writing.
