{My Soul} I summon to the winding ancient stair;
Set all your mind upon the steep ascent,
Upon the broken, crumbling battlement,
Upon the breathless starlit air,
'Upon the star that marks the hidden pole;

I like these snapshots. I feel most drawn to Juan, I like his attitude. I'll be interested to see where they go.

Thank you. I'm sort of curious too, although I know where, eventually they meet.

I'm intrigued, but I guess that's what happens with just a few snapshots.

Also, I'm a little curious about you using the word "veranda" because I totally thought only Australians use that word, but then you referred to Portland and as far as I know there are a couple of Portlands in the US. Can I ask more about the setting for these snapshots? And am I wrong about the word "veranda"? XD

Veranda is not an Aussie - only word, so far as I'm aware. Try to imagine Serena (and her brother) speaking with a decidedly American southern accent, one that could be from old money, though he likes to try to hide that fact, if that helps any.

Yes, there is more than one Portland in the US. If I'm not mistaken, there are a few outside the US as well.

The snapshots happen at the same time... but not necessarily in the same place. Thus the reference to the yellow brick road... at least one of them has a journey to undertake.

Fascinating. My world has been turned upside down. ;) That does help, knowing their accent.

I'm only really familiar with the fact Maine and Oregon have Portlands but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more. I mean, there are a lot of other places that share names!

Cool.

I decided to see what Wikipedia had to say... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland

I was quite amused!

I'm curious to see how these snapshots are going to start to intertwine and overlap. You've presented some compelling characters.

That was my hope, without being too cliched.

Interesting!

Which Portland are you familiar with? I might have to hit you up for some research details!

I am from the Portland MAINE if that's the one you need. Lived in this area for almost 60 years so have a little history! :)

What do you know about the islands off the coast?

Is it still true there are million-dollar mansions overlooking the water that sit empty all winter while their owners wait out the cold somewhere sunnier?
